Harvest University is planning to register the school building as a historic building with the state and national registry. Built in 1925, the HU campus was the first high school in town.
The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act, the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America’s historic and archeological resources.
The recommendation for the registration was made by Fort Morgan City Council member Lyn Deal, who came to visit Harvest University on April 28, 2021.
Since late 80s, Deal has been involved with the preservation of historic building when the initiatives for historic preservations took off. She has lived in Fort Morgan for 56 years and has created a preservation board and worked with the city to pursue preservation for 30 years.
As a strong Bible-centered believer, Deal is thankful that Harvest University came so that the building would not be abandoned, but instead it will continue the history of education and continue to develop and flourish.
